Ren wanted to melt a small piece of chocolate, but I wouldn’t let him use the microwave. His solution? Chew it until it melts, then spit it into a bowl. Gross but impressive.

If you melt it in the microwave, it is safe to do. Just use an entire chocolate bar.
The only danger is that of revelation: discovery!–you will reveal the standing wave pattern of the microwave radiation, in the way the chocolate melts unevenly.
